Why We Are Not Catholics
May 18, 2008

Rev. Beaudreault

The recent visit of Pope Benedict to the United States calls into sharp relief some of the major differences between the UU perspective on various issues and the official Catholic one. Ther sermon is an attempt to discuss the issues not personalities.

Child Dedications will be part of this service.

Share the Plate: Half of the offering cash collected will be donated to Kids on Track, a camp run by school district 214 for children who live at arlington Racetrack during the racing season; the goal is to provide both social and academic education.

What Is Required of Us?
May 25, 2008

Rev. Beaudreault

Our UU ministers are required to abide by our UU Ministerial Association's "Guidelines" (about 100 pages of suggestions). But what about UU congregational members? Are therre at least responsibilities? We shall also remember Memorial Day during the service.

After the service, there will be a special ceremony outside to honor the ministry of our Minister Emeritus, the Rev. Dr. Ruppert Lovely. Please join us for this wonderful tribute.

Religious education classes will not be held today. Childcare for ages 0-4 will be available in the Nursery.

UUs in the White House
June 1, 2008

Rev. Beaudreault

Continuing the subject begun in February, our minister will tell us of the life and legacy of some of the UUs or near-UUs who have served as Presidents, or almost Presidents, of the United States.

We will recognize Religious Education volunteers during the service.

Family Service: Children and Youth will attend the beginning of the worship service with their families (bring your children with you to the service). Nursery and preschool-age children can go directly to their classrooms.

Jazz Theology
June 8, 2008

Rev. Beaudreault

Trying to understand a deity is like trying to understand jazz. Being both a jazz pianist and someone who has studied theology, Don will discuss the similarities. A few operative words might help us understand the intent of such a sermon: syncopation and improvisation - or in other words, being/playing off-beat and ad-libbing.
